Disco Daydreams | Check in to the Astro Motel
Hanging out!...down the street!...we explored our local throwback motorlodge made for disco daydreams—The Astro Motel! The 34-room Astro Motel is an ambitious and stylish remodel of a 1963 motor lodge with a lush interior garden and smart amenities for cyclists. Affordable, urban and furnished with original mid-century modern pieces, each room is unique—not to mention, all furniture, fixtures and artwork are available for sale! Tucked in the heart of Sonoma County, the Santa Rosa lodging is located in an up-and-coming arts district and is the only place in the county where, within a five-minute walk, travelers can gaze at contemporary art or used cars, see an avant-garde theater ensemble or a team of bocce players, get a tattoo or a tintype portrait, and taste of the some of the finest wine, beer and produce in Northern California. With the help of local builders and artisans—members of the Spinster Sisters team under the leadership of chef Liza Hinman, Santa Rosa native Eric Anderson and champion cyclist Andy Hampsten transformed the local neighborhood blight into a downtown jewel.
Three passions are central to the guest experience at The Astro: Design, Cycling and Gardening. Each of the rooms is unique, furnished with mid-century modern pieces from around 1963, the year the Astro was built and accented by modern luxurious like Casper mattresses and complementary local breakfast treats from Spinster Sisters and Flying Goat Coffee. The pet and cycle friendly motel will have Shinola Bikes on site for rental and is located within minutes of The Santa Rosa Creek Trail, which takes riders of any skill level along a car-free path from downtown through a variety of picturesque landscapes, and connects more ambitious cyclists to a network of longer loops. But you don’t even need to leave the property to find fruit trees fresh for the pickin’ or sunny garden nooks to kick up your feet.
We explored the blast from the past motel in throwback threads with a touch Saturday Night Fever (ie. a disco ball!). Check out new Ulla Johnson, Rachel Comey, Ace & Jig, Base Range, Giada Forte, and Tysa for all your velveteen 70’s dreams. And next time you need a staycation or want to visit wine country in style— remember the Astro Motel is cosmic and close by.
